Top 15 Ways to Get Real People to Your Website

Traffic to your websiteWhether it’s a business website or a personal website made for fun, most people who create and run websites are looking for real people to view their pages, purchase their products, offer feedback, incite discussion and more. Getting legitimate views can seem like a big task to tackle, but there are numerous tips to make the job easier.

1 – Identify Your Target Audience

Knowing your target audience is essential. If you focus your energy on those outside of your target demographic, you could lose a lot of traffic. Identify the message, purpose and goal of your website, and determine who would be most interested in it.

2 – Business Cards

One of the best ways to ensure that actual people will be visiting your website is to put the URL to your site on a business card and handing them out whenever you can.  T His may sound like an old fashioned idea and perhaps it is but it has also been a tried and true way to gain exposure in networking situations you otherwise wouldn’t expect!!! (Getting your oil changed, at your local bar, waiting in line for groceries, chatting with neighbor)

3 – Word of Mouth

Tell your friends and family about your website and offer to show it to them. They may be willing to help spread the word to their own friends and family about it.

4 – Social Media

Websites like Facebook, Google+ and Twitter are all great ways to generate traffic to your website. Remember to keep the social media pages regularly updated and speak with friends and followers to build rapports with visitors and create a good online reputation.

5 – Utilize SEO

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is one of the most beneficial techniques to use when trying to drive legitimate traffic to your website. Strategically inserting key phrases and words into your website’s posts and meta descriptions can put your website higher on the list of web results in search engines.

6 – Use High-Quality and Eye-Catching Pictures

Clean, clear and interesting pictures help grab a visitor’s attention, and these pictures are sometimes displayed through search engine results. This allows visitors to be drawn to your website and feel compelled to stay.  Pic images that stir emotion and create conversation..Even if it is a subject that is controversial.

7 – Attention-Grabbing Headlines

Headlines are vital to determining whether or not a visitor will actually visit your website. If the title looks exciting, interesting and appealing, people will be much more likely to both click the link and read the content.  Try not to make the headlines too sensationalistic..   headline that sounds like it came from a Tabloid, will discourage your visitors..

8 – Update Regularly

Updating regularly with blog posts, news, sales, special offers and more will keep your website fresh, relevant and appealing to visitors. It’s also a good idea to announce to subscribers through email when you have updates or new additions to the site to help spread the word.

9 – Reward Visitors

Make visitors feel appreciated by offering special features or promotions for signing up on your website. The promise of gaining future benefits like special coupons or sales for registered users will promote repeat visits.

10 – Host Giveaways and Contests

No matter if the prize is big or small, free giveaways and contents can be a lot of fun for your visitors, and they provide incentive to both visit and return in the future.

11 – Guest Posts

Making high-quality guest posts on external sites and finding a proper area to link back to your website in the post can give their visitors a good impression of your content. It’s also a good idea to encourage thoughtful and interesting guest posts by others on your website to not only increase your amount of content but also to make visitors feel more included.

12 – Visibility of the Subscribe Button

While you don’t want to make the button so large or placed in such a manner that makes it annoying, the button itself should be bright, large enough to easily see at a glance and placed in an easily accessible area of the website.

13 – Most Popular Links

Put a small collection of the most popular links of your website on the front page or in the sidebar. It will promote continued browsing and will be especially helpful in generating traffic during those times when content generation is slow.

14 – Optimize for Mobile Devices

Optimizing your website for mobile users will attract more traffic from these users and it will show regular visitors that you are intent on keeping your website functional and user-friendly.

15 – Monitor Your Website’s Traffic Stats

Most websites offer the ability to see how much traffic you get, where it’s coming from and what pages they’re most interested in. This can help customize your content in the future to promote repeat visitors and hone in more closely on your target demographic.
